Adaptive Reuse Spawns Coney Island’s Ford Amphitheater, an Iconic Urban Venue Topped with Birdair PVC Membrane

The new venue—covered by a canopy featuring a PVC polyester membrane exterior and liner from Birdair—was built out from the dilapidated structure of the historic Childs Restaurant, which last flourished in the early-mid 20th century.

Birdair, Inc. is pleased to announce the completion of the new Ford Amphitheater in Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY. The new 5,000-seat entertainment venue is part of New York City’s Seaside Park and Community Arts Center—a new community development that aims to bring a mix of year-round entertainment, new businesses and publicly accessible open space along the western portion of Coney Island’s famous Riegelmann Boardwalk.

Liverpool Once Again Turns to Birdair for PTFE Roofing System at Galerias Mérida Shopping Center

The new polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) fiberglass membrane roofing system, conical in structure with a flying mast design suspended by cables, will function as a skylight made from approximately 19,000 square feet of the fabric.

As part of its current expansion, Galerias Mérida Shopping Center in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, will soon feature a new PTFE fiberglass membrane roofing system from Birdair, the world’s leading specialty contractor for tensile membrane structures. The mall, which currently features more than 80 shops in addition to a movie theater, a casino and an ice skating rink, is a primary shopping destination in Mérida, the capital and largest city in the Mexican state of Yucatán.

 “Increased global competition has required us to make some very difficult decisions with regard to our North American operations,” said David Capezzuto, Director of Business Development, Birdair North America. “The company committed to assisting the impacted employees by providing severance packages as well as outplacement employment assistance.”

Birdair to provide unique ETFE film for new Atlanta stadium

The new state-of-the-art facility, set to open in 2017, will be home to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and MLS Atlanta, and will host concerts, conventions and other marquee sports and entertainment events.

Birdair has been selected as the specialty contractor for the roof pillow system and facade solution for the new Atlanta stadium.
