Published: October 06, 2010

Birdair, Inc., the leading specialty contractor of lightweight long-span roofing systems and tensile structures throughout the world, is sponsoring a lecture by Lawrence Scarpa, FAIA, principal and co-founder of Pugh + Scarpa Architects, at the University of Buffalo (UB) School of Architecture and Planning on October 13, 2010.

The Birdair-sponsored lecture will be held at 301 Crosby Hall on the UB’s South Campus at 5:30 p.m. The lecture is sponsored by Birdair to honor Walter Bird, founder of Birdair and former UB instructor.

Pugh + Scarpa Architects, the Santa Monica, California-based architecture, interior design and planning firm, is the highly lauded recipient of the 2010 Architecture Firm Award of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Scarpa will speak about the firm’s recent sustainable work, which includes Colorado Court, the first U.S. multifamily residential structure to be 100% energy neutral.

“Birdair is very pleased to play a part in bringing Lawrence Scarpa to Buffalo to discuss his firm’s sustainable work with architectural students and local architects,” said Mitsuo Sugimoto, President of Birdair, Inc. “The lecture promises to be enlightening and educational for all attendees.”

The lecture coincides with the state conference of AIA New York State, held October 14-16, 2010 at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center in Buffalo, NY.
