Coney Island’s Seaside Park Amphitheater to Feature Birdair Membrane

The Seaside Park will include a 5,000-seat outdoor amphitheater which will be topped with a Birdair PVC membrane roofing system

Sometimes the best way to replace a deserted historic landmark is with a new community-centered space. The Seaside Park and Community Arts Center is a new development aimed at making Coney Island, New York, more of a year-round destination. The estimated $53 million project will include an entertainment complex and public park that will be housed in the empty landmarked space that was once home to the historic Childs Restaurant, one of the country’s first restaurant chains, which flourished in the 1920s and 1930s.

Birdair Builds Replica Canopy for Pritzker Architecture Prize Ceremony

The Pritzker Architecture Prize honors a living architect or architects “whose built work demonstrates a combination of those qualities of talent, vision, and commitment, which has produced consistent and significant contributions to humanity and the built environment through the art of architecture.”

The 2015 Pritzker Architecture Prize ceremony honoring architect Frei Otto was held May 16th beneath a Birdair open-air, hyperbola shaped, 1,000-square-foot PVC membrane structure,  designed as a replica of a stunning, 1955 Frei Otto canopy design.  Birdair was honored to design and build the canopy for the ceremony, which took place in Miami Beach at the New World Center, a venue designed by 1989 Pritzker Prize Laureate Frank Gehry.

The mall owners wanted to improve the shopping experience, adding to the high-class ambience of the mall with a stunning landscape renovation, including a unique cover for the common area.

The owner, Red River Waterway Commission, and the general contractor, Carter Construction Co., Inc., have contracted with Birdair to design, fabricate and install a custom open-air canopy for the amphitheater which overlooks Red River.

Iconic Birdair Canopy Inspired by the Northern Lights

The stadium is part of a major expansion project, which will allow Shell Place to host a variety of large-scale events at the outdoor performance center. It will feature an iconic tensile membrane canopy by Birdair.

International stars, national heroes and local talent will soon grace the Nexen Energy (a CNOOC Limited Company) Stage at SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place, filling the air with the shouts of frenzied fans under the vast northern lights. The stadium is part of a major expansion project, which will allow Shell Place to host a variety of large-scale events at the outdoor performance center. It will feature an iconic tensile membrane canopy by Birdair.
