Haj Terminal, completed in 1981, was constructed to handle the large flow of pilgrims using the King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah on their way to the nearby Holy City of Mecca. Over 4.5 million square feet of PTFE fiberglass tensile fabric membrane is used to create 210 semi-conical roof units. The lightweight fabric membrane creates an open feel with increased design flexibility.

During the day, the fabric roof's design promotes air circulation and shading, while its light color ensures low heat transmission. At night, the roof provides a reflective surface for interior uplights.
