Buffalo Outer Harbor Features PTFE Modular Canopy on Observation Deck Providing Shade and Protection
The PTFE quasar modular tensile membrane canopy has been installed at the Outer Harbor near Gallagher Beach. The observation deck project that extends out over the water at the foot of Tifft Street allows visitors who might be looking for a different vantage point onto the water with a canopy providing protection from weather elements. The tensioned fabric structure utilizes PTFE-coated fiberglass membrane with a total surface area of approximately 1,335 sq.ft. Birdair's scope included design, engineering, fabrication, and installation of the supporting structural steel frame, PTFE membrane, cables/end fittings and hardware.
The architecturally sleek looking pier incorporates rugged IPE (pronounced E-pay) wood decking and galvanized metal grating decking. The tensile shade structures allow visitors to take cover from the rain or the sun, and gangways lead from the winding wood decking out to the floating dock. State DOT Regional Director Darrell Kaminski says "the project was designed to bring people out onto the water".
