BART Millbrae Transit Station Pioneering PTFE Excellence in California by Birdair
The BART Millbrae Train Station, situated in the heart of California's Bay Area, stands as a remarkable architectural marvel, thanks in part to Birdair's expertise in PTFE architecture. The station, a hub for commuters and travelers, boasts a stunning, translucent PTFE membrane canopy encompassing approximately 82,000 sq.ft. that not only shelters passengers from the elements but also creates a striking aesthetic. Birdair's innovative design allows ample natural light to filter through the canopy, offering an inviting, open ambiance. This fusion of form and function redefines the transit experience, elevating the Millbrae Station beyond its utilitarian purpose to become an iconic landmark in the region.
With Birdair's tensile architecture completion in 1999, the Bay Area Rapid Transit’s (BART) Millbrae Station is the largest intermodal terminal west of the Mississippi River. Millbrae Station serves as a crossroads for 30,000 daily passengers making connections between the local bus system, Caltrain, BART service, and shuttles to and from the San Francisco International Airport.
