Domino Square Park Tensile Cable Net

Park of the ongoing redevelopment of the Domino Sugar Refinery Site, Domino Square Park spreads along the waterfront just north of the Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn, NY. Birdair recently completed in summer of 2024 a new seasonal tensile structure for an plaza space within Domino Park. Designed by Lightweight Structures Group of Silman, A TYLin Company (formally FTL Design & Engineering Studio), the plaza space will be used in the summer for movies and a stage for performances to which the stainless steel cable net structure with 120 panels of removal PVC Mesh fabric membrane which will be up in place staggered in selected positions to help provide shade. In the winter time, the demountable PVC mesh fabric panels will be taken down and stored for the plaza space to be turned into a winter ice-skating rink. Birdair's scope includes fabrication and installation of the supporting steel structure, the stainless steel cable net, PVC mesh fabric, and clamping.
