Boardwalk Café at Jones Beach State Park features a Flying-Masted Tensotherm™ Roof, an Insulated Translucent Tensile Membrane System
The new Boardwalk Café at Jones Beach’s Central Mall replaces the original building that burned down in 1964. The building features a palette of stone and brick akin to the 1930s-era building original to the site. Designed and built by Birdair, a twin PTFE tensile roof structure – poignant of waves and sails – creates a dramatic interior as well as marks the building from afar along the beach. With a total surface area of approximately 1,800 sq.ft., the conical shaped roof features Tensotherm™, an insulated translucent tensile membrane roofing system. The tensile membrane roof is supported by a flying-mast and cables to allow for a column free space below. In addition, the site includes four connected PTFE tensile canopies over a splash pad for kids and adults to enjoy during hot weather.
