Built when the 8th National Games of the People’s Republic of China was held in Shanghai in 1997, Shanghai Stadium has gained a reputation of being a multi-use facility.
It will be host to the football preliminaries in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and has an international standard evergreen soccer field and a plastic track and field race venue.
The stadium is one of the largest football stadiums in the world, with a seating capacity of 80,000. It covers 190, 000 square meters and has the world’s largest cantilevered steel truss roof with a fabric roof canopy, which spans 300 meters. Three rows of circular, all-weather bleachers and 100 deluxe booths adorn the stadium’s interior.
