AMHERST, NY (April 5, 2016) – Birdair today announced restructuring plans in North America by eliminating positions at the company.
“Increased global competition has required us to make some very difficult decisions with regard to our North American operations,” said David Capezzuto, Director of Business Development, Birdair North America. “The company committed to assisting the impacted employees by providing severance packages as well as outplacement employment assistance.”
In order to better serve its clients in North America, Birdair will leverage strategic partnerships and tap into the professional services of its parent company, the Taiyo Kogyo Group, which is headquartered in Japan. The remaining Birdair workforce will continue to focus on custom tensioned membrane structures.
As the company goes through this restructuring phase, it will honor its current contracted projects by leveraging the expertise of its remaining employees, its sister companies and the well-established strategic partnerships across the globe.
Birdair has been a leader in the tensile architectural category since its inception. Founded in 1957 by engineer Walter Bird, Birdair constructed the first permanent membrane structure in 1973, and developed an entirely new industry of tensile architectural fabric structures.
