Pompano Beach Parking Garage Gets Nautical Look with Birdair’s PTFE Membrane
A $19-million parking garage near the iconic Pompano Beach Fishing Pier has been transformed into a coastal landmark, featuring 16 identical sail-shaped tensile façade canopies symmetrically anchored along all four sides of the structure. In collaboration with CSA Architects, LEAP Associates, and general contractor Kaufman Lynn Construction, Birdair designed and built the white, translucent PTFE-coated membrane façade panels, the custom structural steel system that creates the project’s striking “shark-fin” profile, and all associated clamping hardware. As the sun sets, integrated LED lighting brings the façade to life—casting a glowing backdrop that elevates the entire waterfront district.
Often called the “Heart of the Gold Coast,” Pompano Beach, Florida invites visitors to relax on pristine beaches, enjoy upscale dining, and explore vibrant shopping destinations. As the city reimagined the area into a dynamic retail and hospitality hub—with restaurants, boutiques, and a boutique hotel—the parking garage became an architectural nod to its nautical surroundings, enhancing the skyline and reinforcing the coastal identity, thanks in part to Birdair’s innovative design.
Beyond the façade, Birdair also delivered 15 identical rooftop PVC fabric membrane units in a distinctive blue hue. Altogether, the project incorporates more than 27,000 square feet of tensile membrane surface area—where form, function, and seaside inspiration meet.
